‘muzyka’, 2008, compact disc playing in locked cupboard, dimensions variable
9 February 2008, Warsaw - After the opening at FABS I found a scratched compact disc on the street outside the gallery. It was labelled very simply ‘muzyka’ and was recorded on a disc that could have been purchased anywhere. At the time I assumed it probably belonged to the street kids who had hung around outside the door when I had put up my show only a few weeks earlier. No one seemed to be around so I picked it up and put it in my bag.
…and the world’s your oyster!
…the devils walking next to me! …
The cd travelled back to Australia with me.
…You’re out of touch! I’m out of time! I’m out of my head when you’re not around…
Welcome back to the sound! … People passing by don’t know the reason… How could they know what this message could mean! …We turned night into day! …
After over a day in a plane, I took it out of my suitcase and placed it on the kitchen table.
…Na na Naar… Oooh wee! …
…I want to feel your body! Your heartbeat beats tonight! I want to feel your body! Your heartbeat beats tonight! I want to feel your body! Your heartbeat beats tonight! …I want to feel your body! Your heartbeat beats tonight! I want to feel! I want to feeel! …I want to feel your body! Your heartbeat beats tonight! I want to feel your body! Your heartbeat beats tonight! …
A week or two went by and my life in Australia began to re-assert itself. I grew used to the warmer climate and going back to work. The ‘muzyka’ from Warsaw remained in the same position on my table and was soon covered by layers of paper and forgotten. Months went by. Then one day, I was thinking of my time in Poland and remembered it. I found it and put it into the cd player.
…Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One! …
…Look at my face! … I can hear you! … Listen to the music! …
…I like to move it! Move it! I like to move it! Move it! Move it! …
…This is the rhythm of the night! This is the rhythm of my life! Think of me and burn! I don’t want to face the world in tears! This is the rhythm of the night! This is the rhythm of my life! Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah! This is the rhythm of my life. This is the night of my life! This is the rhythm of the night! Oh yeah! The night! Oh yeah! The rhythm of my life! Oh yeah!
Once again! … Feel it! Feeel it! Feeel iit! …Once again! Once again!
