MICHAEL MICALI
MMX

The exhibition's title, MMX, is 2010 in Roman numerals. The letters also evoke the artist's initials. X is a highly charged letter that has many associations and symbols. X marks the spot, or the marking of a place, is one of them. In this case, the marking of a particular time as well. 2010 is the plane all of us will break through shortly after the exhibition's opening. These are new works; up to the minute revelations of the inner world of the artist. Many of the pieces are reflections on the self and are metaphors for what an individual holds within. A theme of Michael Micali's is to make work about the universal through the personal. That is to say; to make pieces that many people are able to see themselves in, and their own feelings in, but which come from the personal experiences and observations of the artist. The universal is what we all can understand and sympathize with. The necessary personal experience of the artist is what in turn makes the expression sincere and hopefully profound. As is common in Micali's work, there are moments of humor and there is plenty of absurdity.

Michael Micali was born in New York City. He has a degree in fine art from the Hartford Art School in Connecticut, USA. He has lived and exhibited in Italy, and in 2008 he lived in Warsaw, Poland. He and his wife Dorota currently live in Brooklyn, New York. MMX is his second solo exhibition at fabs
